Task – Straightening Screw Piles
The Process – We took the bobcat and push the screw piles until they are straight. We then took dirt and packed the dirt around them.
What I thought About it – I was not around for this part.

What I thought About it – I was not around for this part.
Task – Putting the piles into the ground.
The Process – We had someone come in with a big drill powered by hydraulics. He hooked up the drill piles onto the drill and then drilled them into the ground. He would continue drilling until the pile reached a certain amount of torque (how many PSI it took to turn it). The piles were 10ft and if they needed more than 10ft they added extensions. We decided to use screw piles because we tried to use concrete piles but the ground was soup about 8ft down.
What I thought About it – It looked like it would be a long boring job.
Task – Picking up the screw piles
The Process – Get the piles off the trailer using a large fork lift and set them in a central location.
What I Thought about it – I found it interesting. The screw piles were fun to play as an instrument!
The
Task – Digging and leveling ground for the footings. Marking out the corners of the house structure. Digging down to gain access to the septic tank (top left photo)
The Process – Using the bobcat we dug and leveled the ground. We used the bobcat to dig most of the way to the septic and had to finish it by hand due to sandy ground. Using wooden stakes and bailer twin along with a level and a large handmade square we marked out our corners.
What I thought About it – I enjoyed working in the bobcat but not this much. This area was a great place to ride my bike with lots of small hills and level ground to speed up on.
Task – Removing Trees
The Process – We started by cutting down the trees. Then we cut them into smaller pieces and dragged them away to be burned later. Then we needed to dig out from around the roots and dig out the roots with shovel’s and the bobcat. Then we carried the roots away with the bobcat.
What I thought about it – I had fun doing this job. But after about 15 minutes your feet, arms, legs, hands etc. go to sleep in the bobcat. It is not something I would want to do for a living. But it is fun to do every now and then.
